Added another one to the stable... (not exactly a scooter)

Postby Colin » Tue Apr 27, 2010 4:00 am

I got tired of riding junk, caved, and took out a line of credit to buy this thing. 2004 BMW R1150R Rockster... power-assisted antilock brakes, heated grips, etc. It's the BMW of bikes.

Kinda rides like a bloated Ruckus, since it has wide, straight bars and a fairly low center of gravity.

Colin,
That's a very nice bike you've purchased. It kind of begs for speed and distance doesn't it?

Yeah, sorta. Actually, I think my Ninja is faster (or at least it feels faster - high RPMs and banging gears vs. riding a river of torque and watching the speedometer sweep.)

It would be interested to see how comfortable it is on a long trip - it's the same platform as the 1150GS and 1150RT, but minus the fairings. More of an all-rounder commuter/hooligan type machine. I rode it home from Roseville around 10:30 last night with no fatigue, and realistically, that's probably about the longest I'll spend in the saddle without taking a break. I'm no iron butt/saddlesore dude... not yet!

I heard that "yet" come through. My last BMW was a 2000 1100 RTS. It just purred at 80 mph. You could have set a glass of water on the tank and it wouldn't have had ripples. I'll go on record....I'm envious, hooligan or not.
